Faces of Brighton
I love Brighton.
I’ve lived here for over 20 years and the thing that makes it so special is the variety of interesting people. So I decided to photograph some of them. Just a handful of some of the wonderful folk we have here.
I didn’t just want to photograph the most shocking characters but I wanted to try and get a cross section of the people who make Brighton unique without it necessarily only being your typical “only in Brighton” type of person. So because of this I looked for the organisations and the individuals who make Brighton slightly different from the next city. DJ Norman Cook and Green MP Caroline Lucas were clear favourites as they are both proudly Brighton and have had a big impact on the city. The LGBTQ+ scene obviously had to be represented as did artists, activists, unique buildings, the South Downs, famous Brighton authors and one off organisations. They are Brighton
The exhibition ended up on the walls of Brighton station for many months and even got national press attention due to a couple of naked bums (how shocking!).
I met some great people and enjoyed photographing everyone of them. They let me into their lives and their houses and it was a fascinating look at different aspects of Brighton life.
