Liquid Superhero Photo Shoot

I once had an idea to create superheros from liquid.

So I tried it.

Why not…?

First was Batman but, although it was incredibly hard I was never happy with the result. We did learn a lot from the shoot about liquids and throwing paint in a studio so I wasn’t put off and I wanted to try more….

Next up was The Incredible Hulk. Covering the giant bodybuilder of a model in paint was a little intimidating but he was a lovely guy despite the cold studio. The green liquid didn’t work over his skin so we ended up just painting the poor guy then doing splashes for the clothing. We tried filling balloons with paint and popping them to get splashes in the right places but it was so hard to do and often didn’t work as planned – especially the white shirt (which I was never totally happy with). The model was such a good sport despite the cold and extensive green paint….

Lastly was Storm. I really liked this image and I think we had got a lot better working with the liquids by then. The model was a burlesque performer I had worked with before and she did a great job balancing on the chair for quite a long time as we through milk all over her. The purple background worked perfectly for her character and, as it turned out, she had always wanted to be Storm which was maybe why she managed to channel the character so well. It was messy just like the rest so the clean up was fun but very happy with the result.

I had planned to do a whole extended series of these characters but it has now gone on the back burner whilst I explore other ideas and projects. Maybe they will return…
